Hash browns, or to be more precise, grated pan-fried potatoes, is a popular American breakfast that is made with incredibly simple ingredients and only takes a few minutes of cooking. You can serve it with bacon, beans, eggs, and other condiments. If you are looking for a complement to your breakfast eggs, these extra-crispy hash browns are perfect!
INGREDIENTS
⦁ 2 large russets potatoes
⦁ Salt and pepper
⦁ 1 small onion
⦁ 1 tablespoon cornstarch
⦁ Oil
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1
Peel the potatoes and grate them using the large holes of a hand grater. Put them in a strainer and run them under cold water until the starch is completely removed.
Step 2
Squeeze out the liquid: Wrap the grated potatoes in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out the liquid.
Step 3
Grate onion: Grate the onion and squeeze out the liquid with the help of your hands.
Step 4
Add grated onion and season the potatoes: Now put the potatoes in a bowl and add grated onion, cornstarch, salt, and pepper and mix them well.
Step 5
Fry the potato patties: Heat some oil in a large frying pan. I like to use a cookie cutter to shape them in circles but you can simply form each into a round flat disc with your hand. Fry potato patties on both sides in the hot oil, until golden brown and crispy.
Step 6
Serve: Hash browns are typically served with bacon, beans, eggs, and sausage. Hash browns are great with ketchup or hot sauce.
