There are two simple ways to get the most of the color, flavor, and aroma out of these golden-red threads. The most common method is by using hot water and the other is by using ice cubes.
INGREDIENTS
With Hot Water
· 1 pinch of saffron (about 1/4 tsp or 20 saffron threads)
· 2 tbsp hot water
With Ice Cubes
· 1 pinch of saffron (about 1/4 tsp or 20 saffron threads)
· 2 ice cubes
INSTRUCTIONS
How to Bloom Saffron With Hot Water
1. Add a pinch of saffron threads in a small mortar and pestle and gently crush them into powder.
2. Pour ground saffron into a small bowl or container and add 2 tablespoons of hot water. Cover and let it steep for about 30 minutes to release the vibrant color and aroma.
How to Bloom Saffron With Ice Cubes
1. Add a pinch of saffron threads in a small mortar and pestle and gently crush them into powder.
2. In a small bowl add 2–3 ice cubes and sprinkle grind saffron on top. Let it sit until the ice has fully melted. As the ice melts, the saffron threads will release their color and aroma, and at the end, you will have a vibrant liquid saffron.
NOTES
Stone and wooden mortar and pestle are better for grinding saffron, grinding saffron in metal mortars can negatively affect its aroma and taste.
